I was recently invited to attend a dinner at Martin Place Bar to intro their new menu, and to say I was pleasantly surprised is an understatement…
No need to go into hibernation this winter, Martin Place Bar introduces its hearty new Bistro Menu, adding to the much loved signature favourites. Located in the heart of the city, Martin Place Bar has become a CBD landmark, a relaxed and sophisticated venue with something for everyone, whether it be a leisurely lunch, after-work drinks, dinner or late-night snacks, or an exclusive tailored event.
Big on fresh flavours delivered with a smile, the kitchen is known for its signature best sellers including an array of house-made dishes from locally sourced producers and boutique suppliers. From the bistro menu for lunch or dinner to a tailored canapé package for an event, Martin Place Bar is proud to serve the freshest and most delicious food possible.
The lunch menu is available daily from late-morning through to three o’clock and features items such as the Chicken Liver Pâté with Fig and Ginger Chutney, Pickled Eschalots and Curly Endive with a side of Rye (17), a hearty vegetarian Pappardelle with Wild Mushroom Ragu, Wilted Spinach and Shaved Parmesan (18), or the Pan- Roasted ‘Berkshire’ Pork Cutlet perfectly accompanied by a house-made Pear and Red Onion Chutney alongside a Pickled Fennel and Watercress Salad (26). To warm the cockles on a cold winter’s afternoon the Rhubarb Crumble Cake (12) provides a tart yet sweet finish.
The ever changing Bistro Specials allow regular diners to part from the norm and includes a standout Charcuterie Board with accompaniments (24) and the Corned Beef complete with all the trimmings including Buttered Carrots, Potato Mash, Velouté Sauce and Piccalilli (18) – an old school favourite which will take you back to those long lost Sunday lunches with your Granny. The grilled fish of the day is not your regular fry up, think ‘Cone Bay’ Barramundi with Red Pepper Sauce, Chat Potatoes and a Crumbled Fetta and Caper Salad (25).
Those with meetings that run over lunchtime need not worry; there is also an all-day menu which is available until late offering a multitude of dishes including House-Baked Salmon Niçoise Salad (19) or the Spinach, Ricotta and Tomato Lasagne with a Green Salad (16). And what would a bistro menu be without a killer steak? The Char- Grilled ‘Northern Rivers‘ Rib Eye with your choice of sides (35) is sure to calm a meat-eaters hunger pangs. In addition, the Night Snacks menu runs well into the evening, catering to night owls looking for a late night feed including Spiced Chicken Wings (6) and Mini Pulled Pork Burgers with Shoestring Fries (12).
Martin Place Bar’s gutsy beverage list boasts a variety of cellar-aged Australian wines as well as an extensive range of local and international craft beers and ciders available on tap and in bottle which can all be perfectly matched to a dish of your choice.
Martin Place Bar’s modern yet relaxed décor is the perfect hideaway, offering functionality and convenience with a variety of seating options including dining tables in the open-plan informal Bistro, lounge seating and a large alfresco area boarding the iconic Martin Place forecourt. The featured marbled bar extends the length of the main area to accommodate the after-hours rush. And, with nightly beverage promotions, a focus on showcasing all major sporting events and resident DJs Thursday and Friday, Martin Place Bar invites you to experience all it has to offer.
