Barangaroo Set to Host another Cup Day Extravaganza

If you missed out on all the Melbourne Cup Day fun down at Barangaroo last year don’t fret, because its back again this year and even bigger and better as Barangaroo transforms into a public live site again to host Sydney’s ultimate Lexus Melbourne Cup Day celebration.

In partnership with Victoria Racing Club and Maison Mumm Champagne, Cup Day Festival allows Sydneysiders to experience everything that Australia’s most loved racing event is famous for – champagne, fashion, entertainment and racing – along the water’s edge at Barangaroo.

Barangaroo’s waterfront is brimming with pop-up eateries and bars, a Mumm Champagne Terrace, Craft Beer Garden and live entertainment to keep Sydney in high spirits all afternoon. Entry to the waterfront celebrations is free for those looking for a fabulous day out by the water*. There are multiple screens broadcasting Channel Seven’s coverage from Flemington and TAB facilities on site for those who fancy a flutter.

The Mumm Champagne Terrace is in prime harbourside location and the perfect place to celebrate the excitement of Lexus Melbourne Cup Day. Settle into one of the lounge chairs in front of the big screen and raise a glass of Mumm Grand Cordon champagne, the official champagne of Melbourne Cup Carnival, to the victories of the day. Learn the art of Sabrage from Mumm Champagne Ambassador, Kaitlyn Tremblay. Enjoy an Australian cheese and charcuterie board, mezze platter or Tasmanian salmon poke bowl from The Mumm Champagne Terrace bar menu.

Alternatively, kick back in the Craft Beer Garden with the laid-back acoustic entertainment. Perch on wooden stools at the high-top tables or gather a group at one of the long picnic tables.

Eat Art Truck’s American barbecue street food is back again. Eats on the menu include the eight-hour hot smoked pulled pork burger; crispy fried chicken burger; EAT nachos; and crispy fries. For the sweet tooths, Devon Cafe creates a selection of cronuts especially for Cup Day Festival.

Cup Day Festival at Barangaroo features a line-up of musical performances on the main stage from 12pm through to 9pm. DJ Nielsen starts off the day spinning his commercial house tunes before Chic Republic take to the stage with an eclectic mix of acoustic, jazz, DJs and vocals. Following the race, Furnace and The Fundamentals keep the party going, remixing their way through countless covers of some of the best songs ever written. From The Beatles to Beyoncé, Michael Jackson to Mark Ronson, Queen to Daft Punk and everything in between, this band is unlike anything you’ve seen before.

Make a day of it, just pop down for the big race, or join in the celebrations after work. Celebrate Cup Day Festival at Barangaroo and you’ll wish the race was more than once a year.
