Art Series Hotel Group’s The Schaller Studio has partnered with premier hatted restaurant Masons of Bendigo to bring their guests an authentic regional food and wine experience.
The From Market to Paddock to Plate itinerary gives guests the chance to explore some of Central Victoria’s most outstanding produce. Mason’s international chef Sonia Anthony takes attendees on a personalised tour as she sources food for that evening’s dinner, cooked in her own home.
The day will begin at the local community farmers market where many of the region’s top producers gather to sell their seasonal produce. Fridge bags will be provided for guests to purchase their own goods along the way. This will be followed by a round trip to some of the local farms such as McIvor Farm Foods in Tooborac, where the Hagan’s rear their pigs ‘beyond free range’ on a farm that has been in the family for generations. Next is a stop at one of Heathcote’s renowned cellar doors, Wild Duck Creek, where guests can sample the region’s finest wines, learning all about them directly from the winemaker.
The afternoon will be spent taking in the delights of The Schaller Studio, where guests can relax in the hotel’s large communal spaces and draw inspiration from the original Mark Schaller artworks, utilising the sketchpads and utensils to unleash their inner artist. Alternatively there are Lekker bikes that can be borrowed for a leisurely ride around Lake Weeroona to work up an appetite for dinner. That evening, guests are invited to Sonia’s own home to enjoy the fruits of the day’s labour, as she works her magic in the kitchen to create a feast for all. Paul Hobson, Masons sommelier, will also be there to give expert tips and information on the wines chosen to enjoy with the meal.
Masons of Bendigo is an award-winning restaurant, renowned for being a passionate advocate of the paddock-to-plate ethos and using seasonal produce sourced from exceptional local boutique food and wine farmers in the region. With Bendigo just over an hour and a half’s drive from Melbourne Airport, it is the perfect location for a weekend away. The regional Victorian town is fast becoming a cultural hub, with its thriving art and culinary scenes attracting record numbers of visitors. The Bendigo Art Gallery, who The Schaller Studio also has an ongoing partnership with, will be showing the Marilyn Monroe exhibition daily from March through to July 2016.
The From Market to Paddock to Plate tour will run in conjunction with the Bendigo Community Farmers Market from March to July. The package is priced at $325 per person including all tours, overnight accommodation at The Schaller Studio, a light lunch, intimate dinner at Sonia’s home and transfers around Bendigo on the day of tour.
