The Australia Sofa is the most recent addition to the ever growing Illum Wikkelsø for Great Dane exclusive range and something of a rarity in Scandinavian design, “The four seater sofa is rare, the Danes rarely produced them at this size,” says Anton Assaad, Great Dane’s founder. According to Assaad this might be the conclusion to the ever puzzling mystery of the name, “Both the Wikkelsø family and I have done exhaustive research into where the name came from. At over 2.6m long it’s not something we ever see from the Scandinavian classic period. So perhaps – as inspriation with much of Wikkelsø’s work was nature – the vast open landscape of Australia inspired this piece.”
