I recently had the pleasure of being invited to have breakfast at Harry’s Bondi, and what an introduction it to the fantastic Food, Decor and Service…
Located on Wairoa Avenue, the site has been owned by Harry Lambropoulos and his family for 15 years, originally operating as a convenience store, followed by a café since 1997. Having just undergone a complete overhaul, Harry and his business partner Christopher Karvelas have transformed the space offering a whole new look and concept, Harry’s Kiosk and Harry’s Bar & Dining.
Designed by Tina Cha from Guru Projects, the 80 seater offers indoor and al fresco dining complete with an open kitchen. With polished concrete floors, white marble tables and raw timber seating, the space is clean, simple and sophisticated however still offering the relaxed ambience synonymous to the local area.
Harry’s Bar & Dining marks a turning point for the neighborhood local from what was a coffee bar for the last decade to a restaurant operating seven days a week for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as brunch on the weekends. Heading up the kitchen is Chef, Bryan O’Callaghan (ex Tilbury Hotel) and his focus is on using only fresh, seasonal and local products incorporated with house made items such as almond milks, cheeses and breads.
The breakfast menu features favorites with a wholefood twist such as house-made gluten free banana bread (7) with coconut flower nectar, organic honey and chia seeds, topped with house-made ricotta and organic honey; or quinoa and Fetta Fritters with fattoush, avocado, in-house labneh, hazelnut dukka and lime (18); as well as the Cider Cured Ocean Trout with coddled egg, avocado, cherry tomato, coriander and lime (19.50) all available with add-on extras.
Breakfast carries over to lunch, with additional offerings including a selection of small plates; an Alaskan Crab Slider with green apple, cucumber, radish, chervil (12); a selection of nourishing salads and more substantial sandwiches and burgers, including the Coorong Beef Burger with pickled zucchini, manchego, chipotle mayo and sweet potato fries (19). For those not in a rush, larger dishes include house-made gnocchini or the Grilled Barramundi match perfectly with a selection of sides including Tuscan Fries and Green Beans with eschallots and tarragon. Both menus featuring a few ‘kids only’ dishes designed for little mouths.
Dinner, which will be introduced from February 12, will take on a more formal approach however still focusing on clean, delicious eating which is evident throughout all of Harry’s Bar & Dining menus.
Harry’s Kiosk caters for those looking for a quick bite on the run or an early morning coffee fix. The Kiosk, offering street access, features a small selection of elements from the dine in menus, including a selection of sandwiches and salads, house-made pastries and cakes as well as Harry’s own biodynamic flavoured almond milks including macadamia and Iranian date.
Harry’s Bar & Dining is located at Shop 2, 136 Wairoa Avenue, Bondi Beach and is open for Breakfast daily from 7am – 12pm and Lunch from 12pm – 3pm. Dinner launching February 12 will be available Thursday through Saturday from 6pm – 9:30pm. Harry’s Kiosk operates from 7am – 3pm daily.
