SOHO Opens In Balmain

Last night we were lucky enough to attend the launch of a new wine bar in the quirky and artistic suburb of Balmain, Sydney, Soho in Balmain brings a modern twist on the 1920s to the area.

Justin and Ronite, the owners of Darling Street’s ‘Soho’ spoiled us with delicious share platters and drinks, that had a distinct Mediterranean feel. Soho is layered with talent behind its doors with head chef Steve Koster heralding from hatted restaurants Black by Ezard, Fratelli Fresh, Bathers and Bird Cow Fish.

Much of the talk of the night was around the quaint venue’s stylings, executed by interior designer Ronite Hammond, that had the vibe and classy cool of a 1920s boutique hotel. Hammond, a prominent Sydney interior designer and head of Design 4 Space led the distinctive look and feel of the venue.

Soho in Balmain is my take on what a boutique hotel in Soho, New York, would have felt like in the 1920’s. We balanced it with a clean and modern twist to blend the two inspirations and to ensure the overall effect was chic and luxurious,” she said.

This bar is a must visit, and I definitely recommend the exotic lychee, Prosecco and mint cocktail, as well as their take on everyone’s favourite ‘Cheese on Toast’ (because who doesn’t love haloumi!)
