Gary Mehigan’s WW Cookbook Packed with Flavour & Spice

I was lucky enough to meet Celebrity chef and WW Ambassador, Gary Mehigan last year when his ambassadorship announcement was announced, and have been inspired by his progress and weight loss journey. So i was excited to hear about the new cookbook, Bringing Flavour Home, in partnership with WW, the new Weight Watchers.

The news comes as Mehigan confirms that this year his weight was the lowest it’s ever been at the end of a Masterchef season. After years of incremental weight gain due to the show and being less aware of healthy choices, Mehigan has finally bucked the trend. With the support of the WW program app and a WW Coach, he has taken a conscious approach to eating better both on and off set, making time for regular exercise, and fostering a positive mindset.

“I knew that by following the WW program I could lose weight outside of filming, but I never thought it could help me keep my weight down while I was on the show,” said Mehigan. “There were days on Masterchef when we’d be required to taste more than 20 dishes. Factor in my full travel schedule and I’m an occupational hazard when it comes to my weight. WW’s SmartPoints framework works for me because it allows for that flexibility, it’s easy to follow, and most importantly, it nudges me towards nutritious foods, so I’ve become much more conscious about making healthier choices.”

Tired of being overweight and feeling sluggish since the age of 30, Mehigan joined WW in November 2018 not only to manage his weight but to gain more energy so he might be able to do the things he loves without the struggle, like taking the dogs for a run around the park. With boxing, walking and even running now a regular part of his activity routine, this month Mehigan has surpassed even his own expectations by signing up for his first triathlon.

Eager to inspire others with the secrets to his success, Mehigan’s WW cookbook is packed with tips on how he boosts flavours and navigates the WW program at home.

“As a chef, I’m entirely driven by flavour – it’s my job, my creativity, and my reputation,” said Mehigan. “My goal with the new WW cookbook is to prove you can still eat healthily and lose weight without losing flavour. I’ve reduced fats, cut back on sugar, but most importantly I’ve thought about what low or ZeroPoint foods I can add to the recipes to make them extra tasty!”

The new cookbook includes a selection of 40 healthy and flavoursome recipes inspired in part by his recent travels around places such as India and SouthEast Asia as well as by the key ingredients he keeps stocked in his home pantry. Recipes range from simple to more sophisticated dishes to ensure there’s something for every occasion, whether it’s feeding the family or entertaining friends.

Managing Director of WW in Australia and New Zealand, Mathieu Le Renard, said: “We are extremely proud that Gary has been able to sustain his lifestyle and his passion for food while achieving his weight and wellness goals with WW. His success just goes to show that you don’t have to sacrifice good food or flavour to live and feel healthier on our program.”

The WW program is a category leader, having been ranked #1 “Best for Weight Loss” for the ninth year in a row by health experts in the 2019 Best Diets rankings released by U.S. News & World Report. It is now more effective and liveable than ever.

All members have access to the WW Program and Digital experience through the app, which includes 24/7 Coach support, and can choose to also attend WW Workshops with a WW Coach or Personal coaching.
