Desert Oasis the Sands Hotel Unveils a New Design

PRG Hospitality Group recently re-opened the Sands Hotel & Spa, the hotel, a late 1950s era property in the heart of Indian Wells, has been completely reimagined with new building additions, substantial renovations and a complete redesign throughout, in collaboration with renowned interiors designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard.

The Sands Hotel & Spa features 46 guest rooms, including two suites and one Presidential Suite, all-new public spaces, pool deck and landscaping, a private wedding garden, a signature on-property restaurant and a full-service spa.

The property’s new design aesthetic reflects a mix of Bullard’s Moroccan-inspired influence and the mid-century vibe that is synonymous with the desert’s everlasting allure. A rich, jewel-toned palette of emerald greens and deep blues accent the dusty desert rose pink backdrop found on the building’s reimagined exterior and many of its accents within. Black, white and glass details ground the design and bring both its mid-century heritage and contemporary, modern-day style to life. Nods to the Rat Pack era are found throughout the property’s design story, with hints of glamour, luxury and decadence reimagined for a new generation. Rooms are beautifully appointed with Acqua di Parma bath essentials, Revival New York bed linens, signature Sonifi entertainment systems and full-size in-room mini bars with topline barware and stemware. Many feature lush, palm tree lined views of the property.

Hotel guests and locals alike will enjoy the hotel’s all-new destination restaurant with Executive Chef Jason Niederkorn at the helm. The menu is inspired by exceptional seasonal ingredients, harmoniously prepared by way of sound modern French technique with playful spatterings of Moroccan and Mediterranean influence throughout. Offerings will include shareable dishes, freshly farmed California produce, sustainable dayboat seafood, and the finest available poultry and meats. While poolside, guests can enjoy craveable snacks and elevated sandwiches. Thoughtfully created craft cocktails and wine selections are designed to enhance the food and guest experience. Trained at San Francisco’s Culinary Academy, Niederkorn is best known for his award-winning work at the Hotel Jerome Auberge in Aspen, Newport Beach’s Aubergine and the Michelin-starred Magazin in Salzburg, Austria. Most recently, his role as Executive Chef at Palm Springs’ SOPA Restaurant won him numerous accolades from Forbes and Condé Nast Traveler, among others.

The property’s newly designed signature spa will feature three treatment rooms, including a couples treatment room, and a menu of Moroccan-inspired services featuring naturally-sourced ingredients from Morocco that detoxify, hydrate and replenish the skin and body. The spa will have a lush relaxation area for guests and promote vibrancy, health and true inner beauty.

The newly reconstructed and redesigned Sands Hotel & Spa is the first boutique hotel property in Indian Wells, a small community nestled between Palm Desert and La Quinta in the Coachella Valley. The area is best known for the annual BNP Paribas Open (a Masters 1000 tennis tournament), its award-winning golf courses, the Coachella and Stagecoach music festivals, high-end shopping and fine dining, and the allure of the desert environment combined with traditional luxury hospitality. Sands Hotel & Spa will offer a new sensibility to desert travelers, with a unique, boutique vision that feels like a contemporary, creative new addition to the greater Palm Springs region landscape.

The hotel’s prime location near the famed El Paseo Shopping District – often referred to as the “Rodeo Drive of the desert” – and the Indian Wells Tennis Garden, and adjacent to “The Nest,” one of the area’s most popular live music and restaurant venues, makes it one of the premier destinations in the community for visitors and locals alike. Indian Wells, known for decades of luxurious Palm Springs desert history, has played host and home to numerous old Hollywood celebrities, political leaders and renowned athletes through the years.

Sands Hotel & Spa debuted its guest rooms, pool area and spa to the public in February, and the restaurant debuted this month – March.
